Snow Peak is the definition of Japanese Design – practical, functional, and simple. The idé came to the founder Yukio Yamai in 1958 when he got back to his hometown after the second world war. The Niigata prefecture in Japan, home to Mt. Tanigawa. Climbing the mountain, defying the treacherous terrain, he found solace and comfort in being one with nature. The only thing bothering him was his climbing equipment, it wasn’t good enough. Yamai set out to create better climbing gear to be able to take on the walls of Mt. Tanigawa and founded a company, today known as Snow Peak, a brand that’s still inspired by the same hometown, the nature surrounding it.
For three generations, Snow Peak has designed and developed products adapted for the outdoors. During its 60 yearlong existence, Snow Peak has gone from a small company selling climbing gear to a huge imperium for the outdoor enthusiasts, manufacturing everything from huge canvas tents and camping gear to small lights and outdoor cooking utensils. Regardless of the massive expansion Snow Peak maintains its core and its values. The love for nature, man’s relationship to the world around him and the healing power of experiencing life outdoors.
