Snow Peak is the definition of Japanese design – practical, functional and simple. The idea came to founder Yukio Yamai in 1958 when he returned to his hometown after World War II. Niigata Prefecture in Japan, home to Mount Tanigawa. Yamai found solace in the rugged terrain, tackling the mountain’s cliff faces and finding peace and security in nature, the only thing that chafed was his climbing gear. It wasn’t up to par so Yamai took on the task of developing proper climbing gear and founded the company that is today Snow Peak. To this day, Yamai’s hometown and the nature surrounding Niigata inspire Snow Peak’s products.
For three generations, Snow Peak has designed and developed products adapted for outdoor life and during the brand's 60-year existence, the company has gone from a small climbing brand to a large empire for outdoor enthusiasts. Today, everything from large tents and camping equipment to lanterns, household utensils and everything you could possibly need for life in the outdoors is produced. Despite the expansion, Snow Peak retains its core. The love of nature, man's relationship with his surroundings and the healing power that lies in being under the open sky.
