Patagonia was founded in 1973 by Yvon Chouinard who began his career by manufacturing tools for alpinists in California. Alpine skiing, along with other outdoor sports such as skiing, snowboarding and surfing, is still a large and important part of Patagonia, which today produces functional clothing and shoes with high quality.
